Mental Health Awareness Engagement

I had the privilege of speaking at the Mental Health Awareness engagement hosted by the Gaming Commission at Accra Technical University in my constituency. We had more than 300 students from different areas of study in attendance. The focus of the event was timely and urgent. It addressed how sports betting and gaming are impacting the mental health of students.

In my contribution, I emphasised that mental health challenges go beyond just gaming.

They include addictions to substances, sex, and more.

These are real struggles that many young people are silently confronted with.

Key Message

One key message I shared was the importance of truly listening. Too often, we ask “How are you?” without waiting for the real answer. We need to pause, be present, and truly hear each other, because sometimes, just listening can save a life.
As we continue to observe Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s commit to making these conversations part of our everyday lives.
